Event Description
Data Science Weekend (DSW) 2023 is an event held by Data Science Indonesia bringing the theme Nurturing Data AI and Digital Talent for Tomorrow. One of the series of events, Data Challenge, is a competition that aims to analyze data and provide solutions to given problems.
The competition is divided into two categories: Student & Junior Professional and Senior Professional. In the preliminary round, participants will be given a dataset and free to use any tools while providing the best outcome for current real-world problems. Furthermore, the submitted analysis will be evaluated to determine the top teams qualified for the final round. Before the final round, each team will have the opportunity to be mentored by selected experts. During the final round, candidates will present their solutions.

Choose a problem topic based on the theme and available data sources. Provide the best ideas and solutions through your analysis results.

Create a short report based on the results of your analysis and prepare a results presentation slide or dashboard.

Participants Requirements
Student & Junior Professional category
- Each team consists of 3 members
- For students, participants are undergraduate students with a minimum age of 18 years.
- For junior professionals, participants are professionals in the data & IT field (Data Scientist, Data Engineer, Data Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Visualization Developer, Software Engineer, UI/UX Designer, Product Manager, Project Manager, Business Analyst, etc.) with less than 2-year work experience.
- For students, participants must provide a valid student ID card when registering.
- For junior professionals, participants must provide their CV and agency/company name when registering.
Senior Professional category
- Each team consists of 3 members
- Participants are professionals in the data & IT field (Data Scientist, Data Engineer, Data Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Visualization Developer, Software Engineer, UI/UX Designer, Product Manager, Project Manager, Business Analyst, etc.) with 2-year work experience or more than 2-year work experience.
- Participants must provide their CV and agency/company name when registering.
Competition Rules
Disqualification or penalty will be given to competition participants who are:- Proven to share the given dataset to any entities outside the competition. Participants are strictly not allowed to share the dataset to any entities outside the competition.
- Proven to commit plagiarism.
- Proven to commit fraud, such as doing manual predictions/forecasts.
- Proven to commit cheating, such as asking other people outside the team members to build the solution.
- Proven to change or update the solution after the registration closes
Competition Mechanism
- Registration & Preliminary Round
- Each participant is required to fill out the registration form that is provided in the technical guidelines here: https://bit.ly/RegistrationDSW
- Participation in the competition is free of charge.
- Each team must consist of three (3) members.
- Participants will be given a dataset for a specific topic by email to be solved based on a predetermined topic.
- Participants are required to propose the solutions based on the given dataset.
- All solutions brought to the competition must be original and have not been submitted in any previous competitions.
- Participants are free to use any tools or library they might need.
- Participants need to provide a presentation that includes the analysis results and methods.
- The solution can be in the form of an AI model, dashboard, or analysis report that answers the question at hand.
- Participants are required to submit a PowerPoint presentation file in the format of:

Title:
A short title describing the issues raised and the solutions provided.

Team Introduction:
Team name and the educational and professional background of the team members.

Introduction:
The background of the topics and issues raised, including the urgency and importance of the issues.

Data & Methodology:
An explanation of the datasets, steps, and tools used to analyze and solve the problems.

Results:
A set of essential findings from the analysis, including metrics (if any).

Conclusion:
Analysis summary and solutions proposed for the raised issues.
- Participants must follow the submission format as follows: “DataChallenge_(Team Name).zip”. The .zip file consists of the PowerPoint presentation file and the solution to the given topics and datasets. For example, if the solution is in the form of a public Tableau dashboard, participants may mention and attach the link to the public Tableau dashboard in the PowerPoint presentation file. Participants may also attach the solution in the zipped file if the solution cannot be accessed via a public website.
- Final submission must be uploaded to this submission link: https://bit.ly/SolutionSubmissionDSW.
- Participants are allowed to change or update their solutions until the registration closes on 12 November 2023 at 11:59 PM (23:59) GMT+7 (Jakarta Time).
- Final Round
- The top 12 teams (6 teams from the Student & Junior Professional category and 6 teams from the Senior Professional category) will be chosen to advance to the final round.
- Each finalist team will have a mentoring session with experts to gain insights and advice to prepare for the presentation session. The mentoring period will be held on 19 - 24 November 2023.
- The final round will be held on 25 November 2023 in Jakarta.
- Participants are required to present their solution/result in front of the judges in PowerPoint format.
- Presentation slides that are submitted are final and cannot be updated.
- Judge evaluation results are absolute and cannot be contested.
- Judges are allowed to ask for the code or notebook related to the solution.
- Participants are encouraged to share and evaluate their solutions with other participants after the final results are in.
